Hiragana

I received a request to make some flash cards for hiragana. These flash cards go over the basic 46 characters found in the gojūon(50 Sounds) table chart. The chart is called "50 sounds" because the 5 by 10 grid used for the table. I recommend learning these basics sounds first since it will make learning any of the derived sounds easier. Since these characters are a syllabary, they represent a sound. Consequently, some care must be taken to pronunciation.

Pronunciation

The first task for any student is to learn how the sounds of japanese are pronounced. Additionally, I recommend also listening to live speakers to get better grasp on certain nuances of pronunciation. Here some guide lines to help with pronunciation of hiragana and Japanese in general.

    Vowel Sounds

  • The "a" as in "rather."

  • The "i" as in "machine."

  • The "u" as in "blue."

  • The "e" as in "set."

  • The "o" as in "gold."

  • Consonants

  • The "g" is pronounced with a hard "g" as in "get."

  • The "r" is pronounced with the a sound between "l" and "r" like in "row."

  • The "ch" as in "church."

  • The sound "tsu" with the part "ts" is pronounced like "t" and "s" are mixed together like the "tz" in "ritz" and the "u" as in "sue"

Hello

Hello,

I have my website up and running now. It seems to be working well. I am using a CMS(content management system) called Wolf CMS, and its very light weight. Posting articles and such requires a little more understanding of HTML and CSS, and even some php and some CMS specific functions. I am pretty happy with it though. I like the template I designed, and every things is up and running now. I just need to add more content.
